Aqualyx injections are an alternative and significantly less invasive treatment to traditional liposuction. Aqualyx contains desoxycholan acid, a secondary bile acid. With the assistance of bacteria, our body is able to produce this acid itself in the liver in order to aid the digestion of fat. The inventor of Aqualyx, Professor Pasquale Motolese has developed a synthetically manufactured variant to mimic the fat-dissolving effect of this acid.

This treatment is perfect for anyone that has small pockets of stubborn fat such as double chin, jaw defining, neck slimming, stomach, thighs, arms/bingo wings, saddle bags etc. The treatment cannot however be used below the ankles, behind the knees or near female breast tissue.

It can be used successfully for male breast reduction to treat Gynaecomastia.

The treatment is not for those wanting significant weight loss but can help with these tricky areas that are often the last place that weight is lost from.

The active substance locks on to the fat cell walls and starts to operate. The cell wall becomes unstable, the fatty acids are released, metabolised and converted into energy. 1-5 treatments (depending on area treated) are required at 4 week intervals for best results.

Aqualyx offers fabulous results on very stubborn areas of fat. There is very little downtime and it is considerably less invasive than alternative treatments, such as liposuction. Sometimes no matter how hard you work out and how carefully you watch your diet, you just can't seem to get rid of stubborn body fat and some areas can be hereditary like a double chin.

Swelling and minor bruising can occur directly after the procedure but should disappear within a few days.

A rarer side effect is scarring, which has been reported but is not known to occur with any regularity. Therefore, it is important to evaluate your skin's elasticity prior to receive Aqualyx injections. It is also possible (but very rare) that you could have an allergic reaction to one or more of the substances present in Aqualyx.

Finally, you should not receive Aqualyx injections if:

• you are breastfeeding
• you have an inability to produce fat (lipodystrophy) and/or any conditions that affect fat processing in your body
• you are pregnant
• you have any skin diseases or infections

Clients should avoid hot showers and baths on the day of treatment, however you can continue day to day activities and exercise as normal.

Most clients start to see results from their treatment after 2 to 3 weeks. It is important to remember that this is a more gradual treatment option as the body must drain the destroyed fat cells through the lymphatic system.

As Aqualyx destroys fat cells, results are permanent providing you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime.

Most of our treatments include injections to the skin. Whenever the skin is punctured there's a risk of bruising and swelling. Our practitioners are highly skilled and do their clinical best to ensure veins are avoided, though it's impossible to avoid all underlying structures of the skin.

It's our advice to time your treatments, to avoid any special occasions within a 14-day period of a procedure. This should ensure that any residual bruising or swelling, if experienced, has subsided following your injection treatments.

1. One week prior to your treatment, avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications e.g Ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E and fish oil supplements. These may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Remember, it's important to check with your Doctor if you have an existing condition that requires you to take blood-thinners before you stop taking regular prescribed medication.

2. Adding leafy greens to your diet will boost your Vitamin K levels and help to reduce the possibility of bruising and swelling.

3. Arnica supplements have been shown to reduce discomfort, bruising, and swelling from injectable procedures. Arnica pills may be started the day before or the day of treatment and should be continued until bruising has resolved.

4. On the day, it's advisable to avoid working out or going to the gym ahead of your appointment as flushed skin can lead to more bruising due to the amount of blood at the skin's surface.

5. Please arrive without make-up as your skin will need to be clean at the injection site(s) to limit the possibility of infection post treatment.

You should also not consume any alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment to avoid increased bruising and swelling.

To ensure safe practice we don't treat clients for any of our injectable treatments 2 weeks before a COVID-19 vaccine and 2 weeks post vaccine.

Cosmetic treatment experts and industry bodies have issued guidelines for dermal fillers after a few cases of swelling that were related to dermal fillers and the COVID-19 vaccination. The advice is that it is best to leave a 2 week interval before having dermal fillers and 2 weeks after in order to minimise the risks of post-inflammatory swelling or reaction.
