Profhilo uses an incredibly pure form of synthetic hyaluronic acid which is injected strategically into the upper layers of the skin with a very small needle. Unlike hyaluronic acid used in filler treatments, this hyaluronic acid effortlessly disperses into the skin where it has a 'scaffolding' action on the tissues, hydrates and begins its bio-remodelling process to improve skin laxity.

This is a process that is triggered in the skin to create lots of new, bouncy collagen and elastin which helps to combat the signs of skin ageing such as lines and wrinkles, crepiness, and dull, thinning skin and improves skin laxity and encourages skin rejuvenation.

The results aren't immediate as profhilo is a 2-part treatment; each session is 30 days apart from one another. In those 30 days after each session, your skin works hard, producing new, bouncy collagen and elastin to give your skin a firmer, smoother, plumper complexion. Full results are seen only after the second session as your skin produces more and more collagen and elastin, however, changes are often noticed after the first session.

The only similarity between dermal fillers and Profhilo is that they're both made from hyaluronic acid which is injected into your tissues.

Fillers are quite a thick hyaluronic acid gels used to restore volume and definition to areas such as cheeks and lips, as well as smooth out specific wrinkles such as nose-to-mouth lines. Profhilo has a runnier consistency than fillers and is injected only into the upper layers of skin to hydrate and have a 'scaffolding' effect within the skin, as well as improve the quality of your skin thanks to its ability to trigger bioremodelling.

The Times beauty journalist, Olivia Falcon, describes it brilliantly: "Imagine your skin is a bed: rather than plumping up the pillows (the effect fillers have on the skin), Profhilo increases the thread count of the sheets (your skin)."

There is no downtime; immediately after the procedure, you can see small bumps, much like an insect bite or bee sting, at the site of the injection. These are very easy to cover usually and can take up to 24 hours to settle.

The innovative injection technique used during a Profhilo treatment means that only 5 small injections are needed each side of the face meaning that the treatment is quick and comfortable.

The profhilo treatment is biocompatible due to its pure grade hyaluronic acid which is free of additives, therefore reducing side effects and offering greater safety. To date, over a million Profhilo treatments have been administered all over the world and nobody has had a serious reaction to the treatment.

Despite the incredibly high hyaluronic acid content is has a low inflammatory profile, pro-healing properties and is backed by clinical studies.

Most of our treatments include injections to the skin. Whenever the skin is punctured there's a risk of bruising and swelling. Our practitioners are highly skilled and do their clinical best to ensure veins are avoided, though it's impossible to avoid all underlying structures of the skin.

It's our advice to time your treatments, to avoid any special occasions within a 14-day period of a procedure. This should ensure that any residual bruising or swelling, if experienced, has subsided following your injection treatments.

1. One week prior to your treatment, avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications e.g Ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E and fish oil supplements. These may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Remember, it's important to check with your Doctor if you have an existing condition that requires you to take blood-thinners before you stop taking regular prescribed medication.

2. Adding leafy greens to your diet will boost your Vitamin K levels and help to reduce the possibility of bruising and swelling.

3. Arnica supplements have been shown to reduce discomfort, bruising, and swelling from injectable procedures. Arnica pills may be started the day before or the day of treatment and should be continued until bruising has resolved.

4. On the day, it's advisable to avoid working out or going to the gym ahead of your appointment as flushed skin can lead to more bruising due to the amount of blood at the skin's surface.

5. Please arrive without make-up as your skin will need to be clean at the injection site(s) to limit the possibility of infection post treatment.

You should also not consume any alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment to avoid increased bruising and swelling.

To ensure safe practice we don't treat clients for any of our injectable treatments 2 weeks before a COVID-19 vaccine and 2 weeks post vaccine.

Cosmetic treatment experts and industry bodies have issued guidelines for dermal fillers after a few cases of swelling that were related to dermal fillers and the COVID-19 vaccination. The advice is that it is best to leave a 2 week interval before having dermal fillers and 2 weeks after in order to minimise the risks of post-inflammatory swelling or reaction.
