Fat dissolving injections work by causing an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells which can result in swelling that lasts 7 to 10 days. This swelling can be obvious when having facial treatments e.g. chin, neck. Immediately after treatment you may notice some redness, continued swelling and tenderness in the treated area, again you will see this improve over the following 7 to 10 days.
- Some clients report a slight numbness at the treatment site post-procedure, and this can persist for a few weeks after the treatment.
- The treatment site may be tender to touch for 7 to 10 days post treatment. If you have no allergies to paracetamol you can take these as recommended on the packaging. Do not take any anti-inflammatory medication unless you already take this for a pre-existing condition.
- Drinking 2 litres of water a day for 7 days is recommended and can help reduce inflammation.
- Do not touch or press excessively on the treatment area.
- Ice application can be helpful in minimising any initial swelling. Remember to wrap your ice pack with a clean cloth before applying to the treated area.
- If you have experienced facial herpes previously, the risk of getting cold sores post injections is higher.
- Avoid washing the treatment site for up to 8 hours after the treatment.
- Do not expose the treated skin to excessive heat, including hot showers/baths. Avoid saunas, steam rooms and tanning beds for at least 7 days post treatment.
- Avoid exercising for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
- Do not apply make-up or skincare to the treated area for 12 hours.
Avoid for:
- 7 days – extreme temperatures, swimming pools / spas / saunas.
- 14 days – laser, cryolipolysis or radiofrequency treatments.
Common side affects can include: Red, tight and itchy skin, swelling and bruising.
